About

Brisbane Business Bayside launched in July 2023 as a rebrand of the business group previously known as Wynnum Business.

A bit of history

Wynnum Business was a business group for Wynnum businesses set up by a number of members of the WynnumCentral project (see below) and former members of the Wynnum & Districts Chamber of Commerce. Members were primarily based in Wynnum or in surrounding suburbs.

It was formed in 2016 to replace some of the functions and activities of the Wynnum & Districts Chamber of Commerce which closed earlier that year after operating since 1951 (read more about the closure here).

The WynnumCentral project referred to above was a retail precinct activation program which effectively ran from 2013 to 2015 and continues today as a local news website (wynnumcentral.com.au) with around 3,000 local residents and businesses subscribing to its email news updates.

Why the rebrand?

The Brisbane Bayside area has never really had a business group covering the entire geographical area (although the original Wynnum chamber did have the words ‘& Districts’ in its name). Two of the main suburbs in the area – Wynnum and Manly – now have their own separate business groups which function primarily as traders associations for their respective retail precincts – Wynnum Commerce Inc and the Manly Chamber of Commerce.

Brisbane Business Bayside aims to be the business group for all businesses in the greater Bayside area of Brisbane, south of the Brisbane River.

The catchment

The catchment extends from the south bank of the Brisbane River in the north to the southern boundary of Brisbane City Council in the south and from the coastline to the east to the Gateway Motorway to the west. The area covers the entire Wynnum-Manly council ward and parts of the Chandler ward to the south and the Doboy ward to the west.

A guesstimate based on Brisbane City Council data (2022) for those three wards indicates a total of >7,500 businesses in the Brisbane Business Bayside catchment area.
